The Benefits of Working with the Right Pipe Spool Fabrication Company

In medium-to-large-scale industrial projects, efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness are top priorities. Whether in oil and gas, power generation, data centers, or water treatment, the piping system is the backbone of operations.

The overall expense of the piping system can be reduced while increasing the quality and dependability. The solution that has gained traction across industries is pre-fabricated piping—piping systems that are pre-engineered, prefabricated, and assembled off-site before installation. If done correctly, prefabricated pipe spools can make the construction of the piping system cheaper, faster, better.

Piping Fabrication Makes Construction Cheaper and Better

Pipe spool pre-fabrication makes construction cheaper and better by shifting complex, labor-intensive work from unpredictable jobsites to controlled facility environments, using the latest equipment. By evaluating each project’s specific needs, then configuring a custom piping system for that project, a piping fabricator, such as MW, accelerates project timelines, improves quality, and reduces costs.

How piping prefabrication reduces construction cost

  • Lower labor costs: A factory setting requires fewer on-site workers and reduces the need for costly overtime. Specialized pipe spool fabrication shops can assemble piping modules in parallel with on-site work like site preparation, leading to a more efficient allocation of skilled labor.
  • Faster project timelines: Building pipe spools and assemblies off-site significantly cuts down the overall construction schedule. Since weather and other on-site conditions do not delay shop work, projects can proceed on a more reliable and compressed timeline.
  • Reduced material waste: MW uses advanced, precise equipment to cut materials, which minimizes overages and scrap. Efficient material management in a controlled environment is more difficult to achieve on-site, where a traditional approach can generate 10–15% more waste.
  • Predictable budgeting: The standardization and controlled manufacturing of prefabricated components reduce the variables that can lead to unexpected cost overruns. This allows for more accurate forecasting of expenses related to labor and materials.

Skid Assembly: Another aspect of pipe spool fabrication

A skid assembly, or piping skid, is a pre-assembled, self-contained unit that contains all the piping, valves, pumps, and other equipment needed for a specific process, mounted on a single structural frame. These modular units are prefabricated and tested off-site, which significantly reduces on-site installation time and cost, minimizes disruption, and ensures high quality and consistency.

Piping fabrication is used across various industries like pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and oil and gas to improve efficiency and scalability.

What Makes MW Piping Different from Other Piping Fabrication Companies

MW Piping has improved on fabricated piping in several ways, including sophisticated semi-robotic systems that ensure exceptional accuracy when constructing high-volume pipe spools to exact requirements.

The Right Pipe Spools for Each Project

We create each pipe spool that is needed for that specific project. Then create and assemble piping in our shop – so that you don’t have to do it in the field.

The MW Piping Process

Review

We begin by reviewing the needs for a project, to create a production schedule

Cutting

We may start with a piece of pipe that’s a 20-foot long, straight piece. That pipe is cut to exact lengths based on the customer’s isometric drawing.

Fitting

The cut pieces of pipe and the selected fittings, 90s, elbows, 45s and others, are  transferred to the fitters table for accurate and precise fit–up.The precisely fit pipe spools are then sent to the assigned welder.

Welding

Within our operation in the shop, even on large bore or large diameter piping, we have semi-robotic equipment that welds the material together better than it can be done in the field.

At MW Piping, we use technologically-advanced equipment allowing us to do most motions with a machine rather than a human hand. Any weld that can be rotated is roll welded (ROW) or roto welded. This technique is faster, and stronger than welding equipment that is stationary with the operator welding around it, including going upside down. With Roto Weld, the equipment is turned completely so that all points on the connection are perfectly welded, creating a permanent metallurgical bond. Large bore or large diameter piping can also be roll welded.

Final Fabrication and RTS

MW Piping will do all the final measurements to confirm accuracy to the isometric, and is accurate before being RTS to the job site.

This saves you time, effort and money, while giving you a piping system that is strong and precise. Again, this makes the entire project cheaper, faster, better.
